Hope Shadding Hyer is the Youth Minister at First Baptist Church of Oak Island.  Prior to coming to Oak Island, Hope taught school for seven years in the Hoke County School System.  She medically retired from teaching due to two occurrences of cancer and its results.  After her recovery, Hope began working part-time with youth at First Baptist of Raeford, NC.  In 1995, Hope and her son Eric, moved to Oak Island where she began working with the youth of First Baptist Church of Oak Island.  Hope enjoys contemporary christian music, old movies, singing, missions and, of course, "hangin" with the teenagers. 

Hope graduated from Hoke County High School and from Pembroke State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education.
