Michelle Cheeks is the Secretary/Children's Minister at First Baptist Church of Oak Island.  Michelle moved to Oak Island in May 2008 with her adult daughter, Megan.  Aside from walking on Oak Island’s beautiful beaches, Michelle spends her spare time reading, cooking, listening to contemporary christian music, and ruling as the self-declared “Queen of Board Games.”  Michelle’s favorite scripture is Psalms 126:5, "They that sow in tears shall reap in joy."

Michelle graduated from Bluefield State College in her hometown of Bluefield, West Virginia with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration and an Associate of Science Degree in Law Enforcement.  She worked as a Children’s Protective Services worker for several years before opening a family childcare facility for special needs children. While serving as president of Family Caregivers Network, Michelle taught elementary and middle school; enjoying most, her time as an itinerant, “Bible-in-Schools”, teacher.  She moved to Winston-Salem in 2000, and served as a state Probation and Parole Officer before resigning to serve as Site Director for a mental health agency.
