Praying for the Nations

Below is a list of the countries and territories that have been confirmed to have the Covid-19 virus within their borders. As you look down the list you will see that the pandemic has covered the globe. Every tongue, every people, every nation has been affected. We so often want to see our differences. This virus has shown us how similar we are and that what affects one group sends ripples throughout the world. This should not surprise those of us that profess faith in the God of the Bible, because He told us in Genesis, the book of origins that all people on the planet came from common ancestors – Adam and Eve. We are indeed all one global family and this coronavirus has reminded us of that fact.

As bad as this pandemic is today, it may get worse before it gets better. However, the majority of the people that contract the virus will recover. Let us be in earnest prayer for our brothers and sister across the globe as they deal with this outbreak. There is, however, a far worse global problem ravaging humanity today – the plague of sin. The mortality rate for sin is 100%. But the Good News is there is a cure. The Apostle Paul tells us, “The wages if sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) So as we pray let us also pray that the Gospel will go out with power at this time so that every people and every nation may have the opportunity to receive the healing touch of the Savior.

Jesus said that His Father’s house was to be a house of prayer for the nations, (Mark 11:17). The New Testament also tells us that when we accept Jesus as Savior the Holy Spirit comes and takes up residence in us. Thus, we become the house of God and should be about prayer for the nations. Therefore, let me challenge you to look and pray through the list below and find a nation or two that you might add to your ongoing prayer list. Begin to learn something about the nation or nations you choose and then pray for healing from this virus and that spiritual awakening might come to the people living there. Pray also for protection from persecution. Pray also for missionaries and church leaders in these countries.
