WHAT WE BELIEVE
We believe that there is only one true God and that He is the Creator and sustainer of the entire universe. He reveals Himself to us as God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
Here at FBCOI we also believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God and that it is “useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man (or woman) of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” [2 Timothy 3:16-17]
We believe that Jesus Christ is the One and only Son of the living God; that He was born of the Virgin Mary; that He suffered at the hands of the Roman Empire; that He died on the cross and was buried in a borrowed tomb. But praise the Lord, after three days He rose from the grave and He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father. We believe that God the Father sent Jesus to do all of this to pay the penalty for your sin and mine and that anyone who accepts this free gift and proclaims Jesus as Lord finds salvation at that very moment.
We believe that humans were created in the image of God. We also believe that all people have sinned, that is broken God’s law. Sin separates each of us from God who is holy and cannot be in the presence of sin. However, God loves each person He has created and so He sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross for everyone. Jesus has died for sin, once and for all. However, each person must accept this free gift for themselves. No one can accept it for them. We believe each person has great value because they have been created in the image of God and because Jesus died for them. This value is not limited by the individual’s burden of sin.
We believe that Jesus established the church to be His body here on earth. The church is recognized in two ways; the Universal Church which is made up of every person around the world and throughout the ages who has accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. The church is also a local body of Christ-followers who come together to worship, fellowship and grow together, to evangelize our community and the world, and to minister to the needs of our community.
We believe the two ordinances of the church are believer’s baptism and the Lord’s Supper.
